PARQUET AS THE PERFECT LINK

Karlien Stoeykens and Tom Vanderstukken bought their home - a charming middle-class house dating from 1934, located on ´Den Avenue´ in Wespelaar - in 2007. They began modernising it in the spring of 2013. The hallway and the modern kitchen are now laid with black ceramic tile having a slate motif. Their Variano Parquet - Royal Grey Oak Coloured - in the other rooms of the ground floor forms a perfect link between two styles and two colours, and thus unites the interior into a beautiful and harmonious whole.
Tom is product manager in a company for bakery ingredients, Karlien communicates about urban renovation projects. Their children Nand and Floor are 7 and 5 years old, respectively. Six years after they purchased the house, they began renovating the four rooms on the ground floor: the hall, the kitchen with dinner table, the TV room and the playroom. A number of inner walls disappeared, a coolly stylish kitchen now occupies the centre of the house, and the heating, electricity and sanitary fittings were all redone. The distinctive house thus received the necessary comfort and was transformed into a cosy, spacious and light-filled family residence where the family clearly feels ´at home´.

Good equilibrium
What’s immediately striking are the contrasts: the long white cabinet wall has black recesses, on the floor there are wood and ceramic tiles, modern furniture in the kitchen is combined with a second-hand cabinet in the playroom, sober and tight lines alternate with original elements such as the old doors with glass windows … Yet nowhere do they clash.
The different rooms flow into one another, and the grey-coloured Variano Parquet forms a beautiful link between classic and modern. "This old house has its own style and charm, and we definitely wanted to preserve that", says Tom. "But at the same time, we wanted a very modern kitchen. Variano creates a nice balance. It has the charm of weathered parquet, but the combination of smaller slats gives it a surprising look. Also very important: if a scratch occurs, it´s not such a big deal, since in any case the floor has its own pits and scratches.“

A SUCCESSFUL RENOVATION THANKS TO LIVYN LUXURY VINYL

Ruben Deschamps moved housed a while ago with his wife Nes and his two daughters Renée and Anna. Their new home was built fairly recently, so they did not need to do much renovation work. Only the living room was not what the Deschamps family had in mind. As Ruben explains, “The shiny, white tiled floor was too cold for our tastes and we felt that the house lacked cosiness and warmth”.
Demanding renovator

Ruben began his search for a suitable floor covering. Because the living room adjoins the kitchen, they needed a floor that could withstand wear and tear and, above all, it had to be water resistant. With two little children around, the floor also needed to be easy to clean and to be able to handle a certain amount of rough use. What is more, warmth and cosiness were essential. Ruben was faced with a real challenge.

Livyn: a natural look and easy to use

Ruben pored over catalogues and combed the internet in search of the ideal floor for his project. Eventually he found the inspiration he needed in Quick-Step: in the Livyn luxury vinyl floors, to be exact. These vinyl floors combine the natural warmth of wood with all the practical advantages of vinyl.
As it turned out, this was an elegant solution that met all his requirements: “In the meantime our living room has been completely transformed, because we have also painted the walls and kitchen cabinets in a fresh, new colour. The floor is absolutely beautiful and has a warm feel. As soon as you come into the living room, the Livyn floor invites you to take off your shoes and socks and enjoy the floor in bare feet. We can see how much our daughters enjoy playing or crawling around on this soft floor as well”.
